march on Madison
In Honor of Jay Jay

MY Block My Hood My City will lead a March on Madison that will catapult Chicago from a city notorious for gun violence to the city at the epicenter of the movement to diminish it.

Picket sign workshop

We're excited about the prospect of hosting a picket sign and activism workshop at your middle school, high school, or college. These engaging workshops provide students with a fantastic opportunity to enhance their skills in the realm of activism.

THE WHY

On August 19, 2024, My Block My Hood My City (M3) will lead a March on Madison, kicking off on the westside of Chicago. The ‘March on Madison’ is a tribute to Jay Jay, a late member of M3’s Explorers’ program, and the countless other victims who tragically lost their lives to gun violence. While the March kicks off on the first day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), the issue goes beyond party lines and we invite people from all backgrounds to join us at the picket line.

Our message goes beyond legislation, this is a call to action to show up for humanity. There is power in numbers and together we can help bring awareness to the root causes of gun violence and shine a light on organizations like M3 that are seeking to make tangible changes in the neighborhoods most affected.

Whether it's taking kids on explorations, providing meals for those dealing with food insecurity, cleaning/shoveling our blocks, or lighting up our neighbors homes to spread hope and promote safer communities, M3 is there with boots on the ground year round. To some these may be small actions, but we are firm believers that small simple actions lead to a ripple effect of change.

We hope that you can join us this August and encourage you to share this with a neighbor or colleague to help us mobilize as many people as possible. Your involvement is crucial to making this march impactful and capturing the attention of the entire country. We are currently planning the logistics of the March and hope to roll out more details as the date approaches. To stay tuned with updates, please fill out the interest form.

“JayJay had a smile that lit up the room. He was always so soft spoken. He meant a lot to the organization because we knew he wanted change. He knew that there was more than the block he grew up on and that’s why he was so invested in the organization.”
