My Block My Hood My City Explorers Program took students to Magnolia Screen Printing, an apparel printing social enterprise based in the South Side of Chicago that supports youth development. Students experienced the screen printing process hands-on and got a small taste of what the work it takes to start and run a business.

My Block My Hood My City explorers visited Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and experienced what it's like to work as a scientist in a research lab. Students used microscopes, experimented with dry ice, grew their own bacteria, and spoke with NU Med students about the work they do on a daily basis.

My Block My Hood My City brought students to Maggie Daley Park's Skating Ribbon. For many of them, this was their first time ice skating. But in the spirit of exploration and getting out of one's comfort zone, our students learned by doing. A few were comfortably skating laps by the end.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Chicago citizens, 14 teenagers were able to secure tickets to see Barack Obama speak for the final time in his home city of Chicago. Follow along on as Jahmal Cole takes them on their inspirational, once in a lifetime journey.
