PArt-Time Summer COmmunity Organizer

Reporting to the Founder and Executive Director of My Block, My Hood, My City; the Community Organizer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Plan and host Block Club leadership trainings (including work on nights and weekends)
  • Find and engage new community prospects
  • Use social media as a tool to organize and elevate voices of block clubs, M3 founder and community stakeholders
  • Serve as point person for organizing Block Club Sign Reveal Party
  • Create high quality collateral materials for support of above objectives
  • Connect M3 volunteers with block club events

The ideal candidate:

  • Is passionate about making sure every Block Club in Chicago has access to volunteers and technology and bringing people together for that goal
  • Listens well to build relationships and friendships quickly
  • Can easily manage and maintain communication with large numbers of personal contacts
  • Uses data to set goals, inform practice, manages time and results in highly independent team structure (experience with database use for organizing a plus e.g. logging meetings, running lists etc.)
  • Sees what needs to be done and does it
  • Works well with teammates and comfortable with improvising and adapting in fast-paced environment
  • Communicates clearly and concisely regardless of audience
  • Has a thorough understanding of Chicago Block Clubs, the work of M3, and the power and potential of our movement
  • Access to a car strongly preferred
  • Has a BA/BS or equivalent with strong academic record

Benefits:

  • Summer position (30 hours a week) paying $18 an hour, benefits are not included.
