When I asked the explorers what they wanted to do in our next exploration, the consensus was to "get hair cuts." The assistant principal at Butler College Prep says his advisory class can't stop talking about it.
So, of course, I took them to my barbershop in Chatham, where the explorers received fresh hair cuts and line ups by Big Nordy and Law.
We took public transportation (106) Bus & CTA Red Line from Pullman to Chatham. I want to get the explorers used to using the CTA system because $2.25 can really be all that separates them from downtown; a mere $2 and change can be what stands between them and their access to all types of opportunities. Like many Chicagoans, all of the explorers hadn't ever been on the CTA because of stigmas and fears. My hope is to get them used to taking advantage of the CTA because it is really the aorta into the heart of Chicago.
We ate Subway at the barbershop.,Can't complain.
After the hair cuts, we jumped back on the CTA and took the Red Line to Jackson, transferred to the Blue Line division, and hopped a bus to Ashland, which took us to Bucktown at the Chicago Bouldering Collective. Who does this stuff, right? We do. We're explorers! Rock climbing was a real workout and a fish-out-of-water experience for the explorers.
After our rock climbing adventure, we reversed our journey and headed back to Pullman. It was another successful exploration.
